6 destinations in the UK you need to visit!

Updated: May 12

When you hear about the United Kingdom, do you immediately think of London? Am I right? Did you know there are so many other cool and unique destinations there? London is just the most famous one. That’s why, in the next few lines, I’m going to share a list of 6 destinations in the UK you need to visit!

First things first, it’s worth remembering that the United Kingdom is made up of 4 countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. These countries have a political union, governed by a parliamentary system and with Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state. Until 2017, they were part of the European Union, but with Brexit, they began the process of leaving, which was completed in 2020.

Oh, and they have a single currency: the British Pound (GBP), which is even stronger than the Euro.

UK destinations to fall in love with

Ready to discover my favorite UK destinations that should definitely be on your travel list? Let’s check them out!

London

Yes, let’s start with the most cliché destination. London is amazing and there’s no way you can skip it on a trip to the UK. You know that kind of place that has “room” for every kind of tribe? That’s exactly what England’s capital is like.

Big Ben and the River Thames
Big Ben and the River Thames

How to get there: The city has several airports, with the main international one being Heathrow. So, if you're coming from Brazil, chances are you’ll land there. The other three airports around the city are Gatwick, Stansted, and Luton, these last two are smaller and mostly receive regional or low-cost airline flights.

You can also get there by bus, car, or train. In fact, it’s quite common to cross from France to England via the famous English Channel. Make sure to research well before choosing your best way to arrive, as prices and travel time can vary a lot!

What to do: Endless possibilities! Don’t miss seeing Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. Walk along the banks of the River Thames and cross Tower Bridge. Have a picnic in Hyde Park or Primrose Hill. Check out the shops and markets in Camden Town.

Edinburgh

Second on the list of must-see UK destinations is Edinburgh! The city is in Scotland and is the second most populous in the country, only behind Glasgow.

Edinburgh Castle

How to get there: It is located approximately 650 km from London and 80 km from Glasgow. Depending on your point of departure, you can reach it by air, Edinburgh has its own airport, or by land via bus, train, or car.

What to do: Visit Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum of Scotland. Hike up to Arthur’s Seat. Wander leisurely down The Royal Mile and admire the architecture of the buildings.

Liverpool

The famous city of The Beatles couldn’t be left out of the list of must-visit destinations in the UK!

How to get there: Located further north of London, in England, Liverpool is easily accessible by bus, train, plane, and car. If you’re in London, the easiest way to reach Liverpool is by train, which takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes. If you’re coming from Glasgow, you can go by train or bus, as the distance between the two cities is about 350 km.

What to do: Visit The Beatles Museum, take a photo with their statue, have a pint at The Cavern Pub (the first pub where they officially performed), walk around the Pier Head area, and visit the Museum of Liverpool.

Glasgow

Another Scottish city that couldn't be left off my list of must-visit destinations in the UK! Glasgow is the most populous city in Scotland and one of the most interesting in the United Kingdom!

How to get there: Just like Edinburgh, Glasgow is located approximately 650 km from London. If you're in London and want to save money, traveling by land is a good option. If your budget allows, flying is quicker. If you're coming from Northern Ireland, the best cost-benefit option is by sea.

What to do: You can’t miss visiting the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow Cathedral, and the Riverside Museum.

Brighton

If you're visiting the UK in the summer, you need to check out Brighton, in England. But is it only nice in the summer? Not at all, but since it's a seaside town, it becomes even more enjoyable when the weather is warm.

How to get there: It’s located 123 km from London and easily accessible by train. If you don’t want to stay overnight, it’s a perfect day trip since the train ride takes just 60 minutes from London.

What to do: Enjoy the beach and relax!

Cardiff

To wrap up the list of must-see destinations in the UK, we have the capital of Wales! Although it’s not a very popular city among Brazilians, it’s culturally rich and super interesting!

Cardiff Castle.

How to get there: Cardiff is located less than two hours by train from London. If you're in the English capital, you can reach Cardiff by plane, train, or car. Out of all the options, driving gives you the most freedom, even allowing for a small detour to stop in Bristol.

What to do: You can't miss visiting Cardiff Castle and the National Museum.

Which UK destinations do you want to explore first? Keep in mind that this list includes just a few options, okay?! There are SO many beautiful towns to discover throughout the countries that make up the United Kingdom! If you have any suggestions, drop them in the comments!

Kisses and see you on the next trip!
