If you’re a Beatles fan and planning a trip around the UK, you need to set aside a couple of days to visit Liverpool! It may not be a lot of time, I know, but it’ll be enough to enjoy the city’s cultural vibe and check out the main tourist attractions. I put together a 48-hour itinerary in Liverpool to help you out, check it out!
Liverpool is world-famous for being the place where John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr created the iconic band The Beatles. Today, the city also attracts many tourists who are fans of the football club Liverpool FC. Your 48-hour itinerary in Liverpool will definitely be packed with amazing things to see and do!
How to get to Liverpool
Liverpool is located to the north of London, in England. It’s easily accessible by bus, train, plane, or car.
Leaving from London
If you’re in London and want to enjoy 48 hours in Liverpool, the best options are train or car. The train ride takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. If you’re driving, it’ll take around 4 hours. A tip: if you choose to drive, check out the small towns along the way and, if you have time, plan to stop and explore some of them.
Leaving from Dublin
You can get there by plane, or by ferry combined with a bus, car, or train. If you choose one of the ferry options, you’ll need to take the ferry to Holyhead, in Wales. From there, you can continue your journey however you prefer.
Leaving from Scotland
If you’re in the capital, Edinburgh, you can go by car (about 4 hours), bus, train, or plane. If you’re in Glasgow, you can go by car (just under 4 hours), bus, or train.
Liverpool is in a great location, right? It’s close to London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Cardiff. By the way, here on the blog there are posts about several of these cities! Be sure to check out “6 AMAZING PLACES TO VISIT IN SCOTLAND!” and “8 MUST-SEE SPOTS IN CARDIFF, WALES.”

48 hours in Liverpool
Now that you know how to get to the city, let’s check out the main tourist attractions! Just a reminder: since this is a 48-hour itinerary, you won’t be able to see everything. But don’t worry, you’ll catch the highlights!
First day
On the first day of your 48-hour itinerary in Liverpool, you can start by visiting the Radio City Tower for a panoramic view of the city. The entrance fee is around £6, but it’s totally worth it.
After that, stop by the The Cavern Club, which was the first pub where the Beatles officially performed. Here’s a great tip: before noon, admission is free, after that, you’ll need to pay a small fee.
Continuing with your 48-hour Liverpool itinerary, after visiting The Cavern Club, head over to the Pier Head area. That’s where you’ll find the second part of the Beatles museum (the visit is included in your ticket to The Beatles Story). Nearby, you’ll also find the Beatles Statue, another must-see attraction for fans of the band.
Then head to Albert Dock, where you’ll find several museums and restaurants. In fact, it’s where you’ll find The Beatles Story, the largest permanent exhibition about the band. Opening hours are from 9 AM to 8 PM, but it’s a good idea to check in advance. Tickets for those aged 16 and older cost £18.
After your visit, if the weather is nice, you can walk along the canal. To wrap up your first day of the 48-hour itinerary in Liverpool, you can return to The Cavern Club for a pint (or a few)!

Second day
The itinerary for the second day of your 48 Hours in Liverpool is filled with cultural and historical sightseeing tips! I recommend starting at the Museum of Liverpool, located in the Pier Head area. It is part of the national museum network and features both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Best of all? Admission is free.
After the visit, take a walk to the next museum on the list, the Maritime Museum, which also offers free entry. If you’re a museum lover, the city has other options like the Slavery Museum and the World Museum.
If you still have time left on your 48-hour Liverpool itinerary, head to Liverpool Cathedral. Then, you can explore Hope Street and see the famous Suitcases monument. Finally, I suggest doing the Liverpool Stadium Tour and visiting the club’s museum. You don’t need to be a Liverpool FC fan to enjoy the tour, just an interest in football and a bit of curiosity about the team’s history will do!

If you still have time and energy, make sure to check out the mural of Abbey Road, located on Grafton Street near Ghetto Golf, as well as the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
These are the top tips for places to visit during 48 hours in Liverpool! If you have more time in the city, I recommend setting aside a day for a day trip to Manchester, which is less than an hour away by car from Liverpool. Manchester is a hit not only among football fans but also for those who love good music, it’s the birthplace of legendary bands like Oasis and The Smiths.
